(I found this text online but I do own this book and verified that this is typed verbatim)

From Moral Theology , By Rev Heribert Jone, O F.M.Cap., J.C.D. & Rev. Urban Adelman, O.F.M. Cap., J.C.D. 1952, Chapter II, THE EFFECTS AND NECESSITY OF BAPTISM, pg., 325
Quote:

470. II. Baptism of water is necessary for the attainment of salvation as the indispensable means for reaching that end. Only in exceptional cases can the Baptism of desire or of blood take its place.

Baptism of blood consists in suffering death for Christ. It operates quasi ex opere operato, i.e., no subjective act is required, and hence, even infants can be justified in this wise. The Baptism of desire consists in an act of perfect contrition or perfect love, which acts somehow include a desire for baptism. “Neither the Baptism of desire, nor of blood imprint an indelible character. The obligation to be baptized by water still remains. (Cf. also 460).

The obligation to be water baptized still remains? I thought BOD and BOB were sufficient. Can one be baptized twice? Was Fr. Jone a quasi-Feeneyite???

Another question: If someone receives BOB how can they still be obliged to be water baptized? BOB necessarily means they are then DEAD because they were martyred.

Hmmm...... scratch

What is it exactly that I must believe here?

Rasha,

No offense, but do you ever read these posts? The necessity for baptism remains as a binding necessity of means - no exceptions - until the catechumen's last dying breadth - at which point baptism in water would be of little use. There is no obligation after death - its in God's hands. No one assumes that BoB has in fact taken place unless the act is approved by the Church as one of martrydom.

Believe what the Church tells you. Very Happy
