I am surprised at the number of people that are still paying for programs like Microsoft Word and Norton Antivirus, when there are programs such as Open Office Suite (free, legal, and open source) http://www.openoffice.org/ and AVG Antivirus which does the same thing as Norton. http://free.avg.com/us-en/homepage (Click on FREE edition when you go to the site)

There is also ClamWin which is an antivirus program that a lot of computer programmers use, it does not offer real time protection like AVG though you have to run it manually http://www.clamwin.com/ If you have both AVG and ClamWin you will have basically all the features of Norton.
