A promotional video is available on the new Shane MacGowan and "The Priests" video, here, where they'll be singing Little Drummer Boy. Others have made the comparison between Bing Crosby and David Bowie, which was very popular and somewhat shocking and strange when it came about. Since we're used to such juxtapositions and irony now, Shane MacGowan will surely surprise those who know of him as anarchic, dark and anti-clerical will be taken by surprise at the singer's reverential treatment of "The Priests".

The Pogue could have used some lubrication of the vocal chords - he sounded like a raspy drunk who needed a drink.

What the dark-man really needed was a blessing - and he got one. Ask, and you shall receive. That in itself was a minor miracle. As much as they try, and as far as they have fallen, Irish Catholics cannot shake the blood of their ancestors from their veins.

Meg Ryan, out.

Haha... You hit the nail on the head.. That's what he is. An Irish alcoholic with a talent for song-writing but unfortunately none at all for singing. Smile

I've more of a problem with those priests than I do with Shane McGowan. Parish after parish here are being amalgimated because of the shortage of priests while those three globetrot all round the world promoting what? I dunno.

And is it just me or does anyone else see the general trend in todays church for producing effeminate type priests. I managed to get a meeting a few months ago with a priest who has a doctorate in Liturgy to discuss certain cases of liturgical abuse. I had never met the man before the meeting but what a surprise UH! when he too had the same effeminate mannerisms of voice, facial expression and hand gestures that are so common these days in our priests.

If you ask me, woman priests are already here.
May the Lord forgive me for being such a judgemental man but I just can't help seeing this. scratch

LOL "We already have women priests " --LOL Its true they have kinda become girly men.

But to be fair they did mention their parish responsibilities.

Shane MacGowan is a kind of revert, but his songs are full of Catholicism. I find it hard to believe that he ever really left at all.

His talent isn't merely in singing, or in his song-writing, but in his stage persona and charisma which translates something Dylanesque to his stage performances which is part of the bathos which makes his music so powerful and Catholic.
