Pope appoints wolf to lead flock
Pope Benedict appoints Fonlupt as new Bishop of Rodez in southern France to the dismay and protests of the faithful.
This bishop denies the Real Presence and claimed that the Real Presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist was only mystical, not material, and that Christ was as much present in the congregation as in the consecrated hosts and in the precious blood.

I'll ask the obvious questions.
Doesn't the pope know this? If not, why not? If so, why did he appoint the wolf to guard the hen house?
Do you have answers to these questions?

Considering I've only heard of Bishop Fonlupt today and I know what he wrote, it would seem quite impossible that the pope didn't also know what this mans credentials were. Even the fact that he appears in public in civilian attire must surely give some inkling as to his interior disposition. At least one third of the French bishops were opposed to this appointment and it's hard to imagine that the Pope was unaware of the reasons for this opposition.

Well, then, here is how my mind works.
There can be only two options here:
1. The pope knows of this bishop's heretical ideas and, giving him the benefit of the doubt and trusting in his good will, appointed him anyway; or
2. The pope knows of this bishop's heretical ideas and is not particularly concerned since he holds similar views himself.

Well... the Pope also "wasn't aware" of Bishop Williamson's Holocaust views... apparently communication in the Vatican is terrible.

I think I will send him my email address and phone number. He can call and/or email me to consult me on these types of things in the future.
