Porrige for breakfast
Sunday 9/10/11.
I went to a Quaker Meeting in central Manchester (UK) the meeting started at 10:30am,
(main meeting for worship is at 10.30 am every Sunday. It lasts an hour, and is mainly silent worship although people may stand and speak if moved to do so. Children leave the meeting after 15 minutes to go to Children's Worship.)
talk about bored, I was having to look for things to do in Silence without drawing too much attention to myself, counting light bulbs on the ceiling or looking out the window and counting the bricks on the building outside,
10:45 all the Children & parents left.
10:55am, I was woken from my self induced day dream by someone talking about Her work with workshops and Music, must admit I wasn't paying much attention, then She sat back down,
11:15am: this guy to my right stands up and starts talking about different sounds that He likes and associates with music and something to do with the Big Bang theory! then He sat down, I kept looking at the clock and secretly praying for 11:30 as I was getting really bored now.
11:30am: everyone starts talking and shaking hands...very amusing and the elders started waffling on about Quakers and what they have planned for the coming Month!
11:40 I went home,
foot note: A Quaker meeting is like sitting in a Library with only one book which everyone has read thus they have nothing to talk about so sit in silence...(laughs).
next time I attend I will take a recording device with Me so that I can share the experience and give more info in to this belief system that is a break away group from The Roman Catholic Church.
Yours
