Isaiah 22:20-25

22:20. And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliacim the son of Helcias,
22:21. And I will clothe him with thy robe, and will strengthen him with thy girdle, and will give thy power into his hand: and he shall be as a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Juda.
22:22. And I will lay the key of the house of David upon his shoulder: and he shall open, and none shall shut: and he shall shut, and none shall open.
22:23. And I will fasten him as a peg in a sure place, and he shall be for a throne of glory to the house of his father.
22:24. And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father’s house, divers kinds of vessels, every little vessel, from the vessels of cups even to every instrument of music.
22:25. In that day, saith the Lord of hosts, shall the peg be removed, that was fastened in the sure place: and it shall be broken and shall fall: and that which hung thereon, shall perish, because the Lord hath spoken it.

If you want to cite 22:22 as referring to the pope - and many Catholic apologists do - what do you say about 22:25? I say you say, minimally, "Pope Francis."

Even more dire, St. Thomas referred to the "peg" as the priesthood.

St. Thomas Aquinas, on Is 22:25 (In that day, shall the peg be removed)

545. In that day. Here he sets out the threat against the whole priesthood, which was destroyed in the time of Sedecias, when Nabuchodonosor took them captive; for what was said above of Sobna pertains to the time of Sennacherib. And here the priesthood itself, which ceased in the time of captivity, is called a peg: the children of Israel shall sit many days without king, and without prince, and without sacrifice, and without altar, and without ephod, and without theraphim (Hos 3:4).

Of course, he wasn't referring to the Catholic priesthood as of his day and prior. Were he alive today . . . . he might see this, and other prophecy, differently.

Gerry Matatics referred to this quote in a discussion with Jim Condit on Facebook

He refers to this Scripture and others at about the 1:01:30 mark until about 1:12.
Fascinating, and penetrating IMO.

Here's the proper link for the St. Thomas quote:
