Passion Sunday MP.3
By Fr. Dennis Smith
The sermon for Passion Sunday
Sunday sermons of a great preacher and friend of St. Benedict Center, Fr. Dennis Smith. At the time the sermons were given, July 1988 until August 1989, Fr. Smith was serving as chaplain for the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. A truly gifted orator Fathers deep and abiding love for Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother provided him with the zeal necessary to move the hearts of everyone in the congregation. Following the traditional liturgical sequence, the sermons have the Epistle and Gospel as their basis, but they are more pastoral than exegetical. Father had a wonderful ability to translate the scriptural text into current context so that his listeners could take the scriptures home so to speak and put them into action. The lessons issuing from this gifted priests pulpit admit no compromise, yet if they disturb consciences (which they do) they are balanced with the balm of mildness. Their content is rich in Catholic doctrine, devotion, and tradition as well as right morals. There is not one iota of false ecumenism or silly levity.
