For those of faith, no explanation is necessary.

If I may regress, it’s nice to see a former Air Force Chaplain celebrating the ancient Rite. As an Air Force veteran I can vouch for the fact that the military went “ecumenical” before most of the secular west. I remember in the early 80’s sitting in numbed disbelief as a Protestant minister was invited to read the Gospel and give the “sermon” at mass (Langley, VA). It was also around the time my wife (former Lutheran) was going through RCIA and I had to “supplement” the nonsense being taught.

But, just when I thought it could not get any worse, my travels across the US as part of the IG team would sometimes allow me to attend a non-military Mass in a particular city where, on one occasion, I witnessed the celebrating priest in his flowing rainbow robes give a sermon on, among other liberal twaddle, how backwards the Church is not to allow good Sister so-and-so to become a priestess; with the “Sister”, who probably ran the show, being present, of course.

I think some sanity has returned, though we are far from through this. Thank God we still have the sacraments.
